Deacon Curtis Smith was ordained a Deacon at the Third Baptist Church in Washington, DC on 7 December 1978. He is married to Carol Smith, has one son and four grandkids. He is currently serving as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry and Church Administrator at the Third Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Paige Harris. Deacon Smith served in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years and retired as a First Sergeant. He is a combat veteran who served in Vietnam as a squad leader in the 3rd Marine Division. Deacon Smith also retired after 16 years as a Supervisor with the United Parcel Service. His degree is in Business Management which he has used to own and operate Mount Vernon Basketball Officials Association which operates in the Northern Virginia and DC areas. He is a certified Basketball Referee who trains and employs approximately 130 Officials. Deacon Smith is a Past President of the General Baptist Deacons Association of Washington, DC and Vicinity and currently serves as the President of the National Baptist Deacons Convention of America. Deacon Smith is responsible for training and assisting in the ordination process for a considerable number of Deacons in the Washington, DC area. He conducts religious leadership training and seminars along the east coast. Deacon Smith is also a member of the Religious Conference Management Association (RCMA) along with many other organizations he uses to advance his knowledge and preparation for service. When not actively serving the church or working at his business, he plays tournament softball along the east coast. Deacon Smith loves serving the Lord. One of his favorite Bible verses is Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Deacon Smith believes in giving your best service to the Lord and expects excellent from himself and those who work with him. Deacon Smith resides and operates his business in Woodbridge, Virginia.
