Mary C. Lomax is the third of four children born to Lawrence and Pauline B. Clark. Mary was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Mercy Douglass Hospital on May 30, 1945. She has one sister, Yvonne B. Clark, and two brothers Mervin D. Clark and Walter L. Clark deceased. She has one daughter Yvonne A. Lomax, who served as President of the Youth Department and first President of the Young Adult Department.
Mary attended public schools in the Chester Upland School District. She attended John Watts Elementary School Frederick Douglass Junior High School and Chester High School. She graduated from Chester High in June 1963.
In September 1963 Mary matriculated to Delaware State College now University. She graduated in 1968 receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education. In June of 1975, Mary received a Master of Education, with a concentration in Health and Physical Education from West Chester State College, located in West Chester, Pennsylvania. In 1980 Mary earned a second Master of Education, with a concentration in Health Education. She also attended Wilmington University, Dover, Delaware, where she received a certificate in Elementary Counseling K – 12. In 2005 Mary graduated from Friends International University, Saratoga, Florida with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Biblical Counseling. She was certified in the following therapies: Death and Grief, Substance Abuse and Addiction, and Child and Adolescent.
In 1968. Mary was hired by the Chester Upland School District as a Health and Physical Education Teacher at Frederick Douglass Junior High School. She worked in the district for seven years. Along with her teaching responsibilities she served as the coach for the cheerleaders. In 1975, Mary applied and was hired by Delaware State College as an instructor in the Health and Physical Education Department. Again, enjoying working with young people she served as an advisor for pom-pom girls, cheerleaders, Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Club and helped to keep stats for the women’s basketball team. After 34 years of teaching at DSU 31 years as an assistant professor and three years as an adjunct professor, Mary retired in 2009.
Mary is a member of the historic Calvary Baptist Church in Dover, Delaware where Bishop W. James Thomas II is Senior Pastor. She serves as the secretary of the Trustee Board and is a member of the Senior Ministry. She has served in the following positions: Superintendent of Sunday School, Coordinator for Vacation, Bible School, President of Senior Usher Board, Advisor for Junior and Young Adult Usher Boards, and Youth Church Advisor.
